Hello, everyone -
Just want to remind you that the SocorroFest Harmonica Contest in ON again this year - Saturday, Oct. 9, 2-4 p.m. on the City Hall Stage in beautiful Socorro, NM.
This is our third year - we started with just a few local Socorro-area players in 2008, and last year we got entries from all over New Mexico and even one guy from Texas. I think we're starting to get the hang of this, and we want to keep some momentum going.
We've got good prize money - $250 for 1st, $150 for 2nd, and $100 for 3rd.
We've got Bobby Olguin to emcee - you may have seen him on the Food Network, winning the Green Chile Cheeseburger Throwdown with Bobby Flay, or on a show called New Mexico's Hot Chefs - the man makes a hell of a cheeseburger, and plays a mean harp, too.
We've got judges that know a thing or two about music.
There aren't any rules - you just get five minutes to wow the judges any way you know how. If you bring a guitar player to back you up, that's cool - but you should know only the harmonica gets a mic - 'cause it's all about the harmonica.
Socorro is an hour south of Albuquerque, NM, just about in the middle of the state. If you're in range, we'd love to see you here - enter the contest, or just check out the talent and enjoy the rest of the fest. Beer, wine, live music on three stages. Terrance Simeon and the Zydeco Experience is our headline act. To enter the festival is absolutely free, and to enter the harmonica contest it's $25. If you think you might be coming, let us know so we can roll out the red carpet for you!
All the info is at www.socorrofest.com, but if you have questions and want to talk to a real live person, email me and I'll give you a call.
Hope to see you there!
~Suzanne
